This dance is performed in the Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Jordania. It has folklore roots and is popular in all the countries of the middle East, but it has its own offering in each country.
Dabka is full of temperament, it is very provoking and doesn’t leave any spectator indifferent!
This dance can be performed by men and women.
The elements of Dabka can be also present in the compositions of Raks Sharqi and Saidi.
Dabka is usually performed in a group. The festivals are often begun with this dance. The typical characteristics of the style are rapid and various leaps.

The style of Andalusia

Andalusia is the region of Spain, which was occupied by Arabs during 800 years.
This style is very artificial. Dancers use veils of different colour in completion of arabesque.
The music takes its source in X c. of “Arabian” Spain.
This style has its own rhythm. The costume reflects the music, underlining the lightness of each movement.
After the fall of Granada in 1492 the tradition of this style prolonged in different countries of North Africa (the Lebanon, Tunis, Algiers and Morocco), and over the course of many years each country was developed its own school with different expression of this dance.

Fellahin (Fellahi)

Fellahin is translates as “a peasant”. This dance tells us about life and labour of peasants.
This style is very popular in Egypt, where the Nile flows through, and also in Iraq and other countries.
This dance has its own rhythm, light and rapid. There is always a singer in compositions, and the movements go after a text of a song.
The costume for Fellahin is consists of a long dress, which becomes wider at the bottom, and it finishes with flounces. The head is covered with a kerchief. Sometimes a long scarf is used, which is tied around the neck- during the performance a dancer can tie it round her ankles to accent the movements.
Such things as jugs, baskets or a cane can be used too. The cane differs from that one ins or a cane can be used too. The cane differs from that one in Saidi - the size of it is bigger and it is only for holding and not for turning round.

Pharaonic (The dance of Pharaons)

This style of dance describes to us the dance of times of Pharaons.
It is possible to say, that it comes from suppositions of XX and XXI c., interpreting the literary sources. This style often uses the music “New Age”, and the costumes, are made on the base of sketches of the Pharaons’s time.
Candles are often used. The movements of arms reflect the antique painting.
As Pharaonic hasn’t proven folklore roots, the opinions about this style are incoordinate.
Antique Egypt always attracted many searchers, scientists, people of culture and there is nothing surprising in, that the world of dance created this strange and wonderful style.
Some dancers make this style very scenographic , sacramental and attractive for spectators.

Trybal and Trybal Fusion

These styles (like the Pharaonic) don’t have the folklore roots. They appeared in America at the beginning of ‘60 and now they are developed all over the world.
The idea of these styles is concluded in a connection of the dance, the oriental music and in some cases the Middle Age European music. The different styles of dance are mixed here, and the spectacle sums folklore for new spectator because of its characteristic movements, costumes and music.
These styles are often performed by women in groups.
The costume is a collection of culture and traditions of the East, including India. The dancers often make theirs costumes, according to theirs personal preferences.
It makes the unusual results.
In the dance swords, baskets, ribbons, tricky snakes can be used.
