Haligi
is translated as “a gulf”. This is the folklore style
of the Middle East dance of Arabia and the countries of the Persian
Gulf. It is usually performed by women in groups.
This style is particular and produces another sensation on a spectator,
than classical Raks
Sharqi.
The most part of movements of a dancer is accented on the upper part
of the body and on soft steps. But first of all- various movements
of splendid long hair.
During the dance arms have a typical position of this style.
The
Music of Haligi
This style has its own rhythm, easy to know. The instruments are often
traditional. There are many modern compositions of it.
The
costume of Haligi
Traditionally
this style is performed in“Thobe”.
It is a long and wide dress, richly unsewed, especially in central
and upper parts. There aren’t used neither handkerchiefs nor
scarfs, wound round the ankles.
The arms of the dancer can be adorned by numerous bracelets.
The dress can be used in typical ways for this style during the dance.
